Hi, we’re Elfie and Lezanne from Kathuhari Guesthouse in Kathu in Kalahari, Northern Cape.
KATHU IS BEST KNOWN FOR the huge mining industry in the Northern Cape and of course our famous Camelthorn forest. The forest is only one of two in the world and has awareded protected status by the government.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT standing next to the huge trucks at the shell garage when you enter Kathu from the N14. these are old and Kumba Iron ore (old Sishen) have much bigger ones now.
THE BEST PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN on the Sishen Golf Course where lots of wedding and family pictures has been taken with breathtaking outcomes.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, WE LIKE TO laze by the pool or have a braai in our lovely boma with friends and family.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, WE LIKE TO sit by the fireplace or go shopping at the Village Mall.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS March, April and October, November, BECAUSE it is not so extremely hot and the days are lovely. Our winters are really very very cold which is unexpected for the Kalahari.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Albatross Restaurant on the golf estate.
FOR LUNCH, WE ALSO SUGGEST the Albatross as the view onto the golf course is one surely to treasure.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS difficult to say because we are very limited with good restaurants in Kathu, we do not really have a favourite one, as each restaurant brings it own vibe.

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN there is really not a lot to do, rather have a braai at friends place.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO go to Sishen Golf Club or The Pitch Inn at the golf club.
Kathu’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS the Kalahari gholf en jaglandgoed on the famous sishen golf course.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS playing golf and having a coffee to chat.
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO spend time on the golf course.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS going to Witsand Nature Reserve, about 130km from Kathu.
I Love Kathu Because they say you only cry twice in Kathu. The day you arrive here, and the day you might leave Kathu. We have been here for 8 years and will not leave Kathu. You still have a quality life here in Kathu, children riding there bicycles in the streets, playing in the parks with almost no crime (only petty crime). This is the heart of the green Kalahari.
