Hi, I’m Jo Walsh from Sea Breeze Kommetjie in Kommetjie on the Atlantic Seaboard of Cape Town.
KOMMETJIE IS BEST KNOWN FOR among many other things, its awesome natural surroundings, world class surfing destination, immaculate beaches, fresh air, cray-fishing, seasonal whales, famous light house and spectacular views in all directions.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT the famous Long Beach or for the slightly more adventurous at the top of the Slangkop Mountain with the village, sea and mountains as your surreal back drop.
THE BEST sunset PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT The Kom.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT the historic light house.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO do as many of the outdoor activities, you have at your fingertips, as possible. Horse back kilometers of unspoilt white beach and gallop through retreating waves of the fresh Atlantic. Join the baboons on a fascinating eco trail through the mountains, Surf the many world renowned breaks in the area. Bicycle around the village and beyond and witness the treasure this stretch of coast have to offer in your own time.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO still brave the elements and enjoy a walk on the beach with my dogs. It makes the log fire and red wine even more enjoyable.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS all year round, BECAUSE there will always be something to do and the natural surrounding beauty changes with the seasons.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Imhoff Farm Village.
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Fisherman’s for a relaxed family meal.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Blue Water Cafe, TRY THE catch of the day and their pizza would make the People of Naples proud.
BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM the local convenient store.
MY FAVOURITE viewing SPOT IS at the cross on the top of Slangkop mountain.
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY Solole Game Reserve.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO the Fisherman’s Pub and Grill or the beach.
Kommetjie’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS that you are literally out in nature but never far from anything you may require that the big city of Cape Town has to offer.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS enjoying the sunset on the rocks with a glass of local wine.
FOR SOME LIVE MUSIC, I LIKE TO GO TO live musical events that take place at some of the out of the way venues in the area and attend community fares that happen throughout the year.
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO take long strolls on the beach.
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY surfing, hiking, climbing, cycling, diving, fishing, horse riding.
MY FAVOURITE DRIVE IS from Cape Point to Kommetjie along the coastal pass.
MY FAVOURITE food SHOP IS Imhoffs farm stall.
MY FAVOURITE bird WATCHING SPOT IS island at the Kom.
IF YOU’RE HERE IN spring, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Kommetjie festival.
MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS the light house, FOR ITS uniqueness and mint condition.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS the local beaches and Imhoffs farm yard.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS visit to the light house where there is a little museum and you get to walk all the way to the top for an awesome view of the village.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO take a chopper flight arround the peninsula.
THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS the baboons.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS The Cederberg and The Overberg Region.
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I strongly advocate maintaining our natural surroundings so that there will hopefully be something that we, and the generations that follow, can all enjoy at our leisure.
I Love Kommetjie BECAUSE matter where I travel to in the World there is just NO BETTER PLACE… COME see for yourself!
