Hi, I’m Gill Pringle from Beach House in Kenton on Sea.
Kenton on Sea IS BEST KNOWN FOR its sheltered coves and pristine stretches of beach.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT Carriage Rock which is an interesting landmark and commands a superb sea view.
THE BEST family PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT Shelley Bay and Mermaids’ Pool.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT Bushmans River mouth.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO swim at Shelley Bay.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO curl up under a mohair blanket with a good book and enjoy the view from Beach House.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS March and April, BECAUSE the weather is settled.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Voila Restaurant and Gift Shop.
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST the deck at Homewoods – this is an a la carte restaurant and pizzeria. Find them at the main beach.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Stanley’s. The restaurant has a great view and both indoor and outdoor eating areas.
TRY THE line fish … they serve the freshest seafood and tasty steaks.
BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM Jeremiah’s.
MY FAVOURITE skiing SPOT IS the Kariega River followed by sundowners at Horns Up.
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY Winkies in season or Jeremiah’s.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO the tennis club.
Kenton on Sea’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS The Poor Man’s Game Drive! If your budget doesn’t stretch to a luxury safari then do your own game drive on one of the public roads that run through reserves such as Kariega and Sibuya. You never know … you might be lucky enough to see the Big Five from your car.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS to hire canoes from the Kenton Marina and paddle up the Bushman’s River.
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO float with the tide down the Kariega River.
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY walking along the each from the Kariega River mouth to Kasouga.
MY FAVOURITE WALK IS to Diaz Cross along the beach from the Bushmans River mouth.
MY FAVOURITE antique, retro and gift SHOP IS Funky Junk in Port Alfred.
MY FAVOURITE bird watching WATCHING SPOT IS from the banks of the Kariega River.
IF YOU’RE HERE IN June and July, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Grahamstown Arts Festival which is within an easy distance from Kenton.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS Tam Jozi Animal Farm and Coffee Shop.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS to Horns Up on the Kariega River – accessible by car or boat.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO take a flip in a helicopter.
THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS the Fish Eagle.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS The Hogsback.
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I collect stationery and sports equipment for the local township schools.
Other: A wonderfully creative activity for both children and adults is a once off or series of pottery lessons with Meshak who operates from River Roost (just outside Kenton on the Grahamstown Road).
I Love Kenton on Sea BECAUSE of its unspoilt beauty and because it is the perfect place in which to relax. I love the friendliness of the locals and the fact that it has remained unspoilt.
