Hi, Iโm Atjie Bekker from Dullstroom, Mpumalanga.
Dullstroom IS BEST KNOWN FOR top of the range fly fishing, the wonderful mist and priceless snowfalls!
We are on the Eastern escarpment; two hours drive from Pretoria Accommodation and Johannesburg and at 2053m above sea level are the highest town in South Africa! Dullstroom is a tourist destination and also an ideal stopover fro tourists on the Panorama Route; halfway between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park.
GET YOUR PORTRAIT SKETCHED AT Dimitrov Art Gallery.
THE BEST Fauna and Flora PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT Verloren Vallei, only 12km from town.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT the top of the highest point in the area … heads in the clouds and your feet on the ground! Or if you’re very lucky you can get a few snaps if you are here during a winter snowfall.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO spend some time around the scenic areas of Dullstroom.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO enjoy Troll House’s warm atmosphere; playing pool or relaxing in front of the fireplace.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS all year around, BECAUSE summer has warm days and cool nights and there are lots of outdoor activities. Winter has the mystery of warm log fires, misty evenings and perhaps even a white ‘Christmas in July.’
Although Easter seems to be one of the most popular periods for visitors, I personally believe that the warmest months (November to February) are the most pleasant in Dulleez … when its hellish hot anywhere else!
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Harrys Pancakes.
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST heading to Tonteldoos. Stop at Pendle Hill Dairy on your way and explore the Steenkampsberg highest point.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Fibs, TRY THE oxtail or trout fillet.
BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM Duck and Trout.
MY FAVOURITE view SPOT IS high up on Grootsuikerboschkop, Dullstroom’s famous hill … the birds eye views are amazing!
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY the vibe of live music at Poachers.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO Mrs Simpsons.
Dullstroomโs BEST KEPT SECRET IS the endless kilometres of safe biking.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS a day trip with quad bikes to do some fishing and then enjoy a peaceful braai afterwards – or a glass of red wine in front of the fireplace.
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO visit one of the lovely spa’s … and yes, they are fantastic.
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY 4 x 4, quadbiking, hiking or horseback riding trails.
MY FAVOURITE HIKE IS Suikerboschkop trail … visit the old Boer forts and enjoy the views of Dullstroom.
MY FAVOURITE clock SHOP IS The Clock Shop! It has the largest selection of clocks in the Southern Hemisphere!
MY FAVOURITE bird WATCHING SPOT IS the daily show at the Bird of Prey Centre.
IF YOU’RE HERE IN July, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the ‘Christmas in July’ Festival.
MY FAVOURITE GALLERY IS Dimitrov Art. CHECK OUT THE sculptures.
MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS the Old Stone Church, FOR ITS historical value before and during the Anglo Boer War.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS pony rides at Dullstroom Riding Centre.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS to follow your wunderlust and explore the town by foot or bicycle.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO shop until I drop, especially at the Decor Warehouse.
THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS regardless of the weather; rain, snow or sunshine, everybody enjoys the vibe of the town.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS to visit Troll House and enjoy the freedom of Dullstroom while time stands still.
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I join Helping Hands or the local charity, Epilepsy SA with any of their drives.
I Love Dullstroom BECAUSE it has small town atmosphere with a richness in Anglo Boer War history.
