Hi, we’re Samantha and Marie-Helene from Lalapanzi Lodge in Sir Lowry’s Pass in the Cape Helderberg of the Western Cape.
Sir Lowry’s Pass IS BEST KNOWN FOR for the steep mountain pass to the Overberg.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT the Rastafarians shop near the railway line OR on top of the Pass or one of the surrounding mountains. You can either; drive, cycle, walk or ride up to a top, which gives you a panorama view of the whole of Cape Town.
THE BEST PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT sunset.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT the daily soup kitchen.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, WE LIKE TO ride horses or sunbath around the pool or the dam.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, SAMANTHA LIKES TO sit by the fire with family. AND Marie-Helen enjoys going for a walk, because the nature is stunning around here!
SAMANTHA THINKS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS December / January, BECAUSE the weather is great. Marie-Helene thinks April to June, BECAUSE you have beautiful days with temperatures of 25 degree and cold night, no wind and empty beaches.
OUR FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Lalapanzi Lodge on their balcony overlooking the sea view.
FOR LUNCH, WE SUGGEST either a pizza in Gordon’s Bay or the restaurant at Vergelegen.
Marie-Helene’s FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Waterkloof, very upmarket. Beautiful food and wines! And of course the dining room at Lalapanzi Lodge, Rose prepares delicious South African kos and Samantha’s FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Im Eimer, she suggests you TRY THE chicken schnitzel.
MY FAVOURITE SPOT IS Somerset-Gordon’s bay area, in a few minutes I can be at the beach or sipping wines at one of the most beautiful vineyards in the world!
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY Yamas Greek Taverna.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO Talas Bar in Gordon’s Bay.
Sir Lowry’s Pass’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS its natural surroundings with the nature trails up the mountain.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS ride up the mountain on horseback.
FOR LIVE MUSIC, MARIE-HELENE LIKES TO GO TO Im Eimer, Capelands, one of the summer concerts or invite the 3 sisters at Lalapanzi Lodge and Samantha enjoys going to Helderberg Nature Reserve in summer for the sunset concerts.
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY mountain biking, horse riding, surfing or paragliding down the Pass.
MARIE-HELENE’S FAVOURITE WALK IS around the farm.
A FAVOURITE whale WATCHING SPOT IS Rooi Else.
IF YOU’RE HERE IN October, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Helderberg wine festival.
OUR FAVOURITE BUILDINGS ARE nature itself because it caters for Samantha’s outside enthusiasm. And the buildings at Vergelegen Wine estate, for its colonial charm combined with new design, set in beautiful gardens.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS lovely garden centre with toddlers play area and swimming pool close-by. For slightly older children, waterski, fufi slide and swimming in the dam at Blue Rock in Sir Lowry’s Pass is fun or go for a surfing lesson at the beach. The Eagle encounter and Cheetahs at Spier, Butterfly World, the Aquarium and Monkey Town are all great day outings.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS spending your day at the beach or go for a mountain bike ride through the mountains.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, SAMANTHA LIKES TO to paraglide off Gordon’s Bay mountain and Marie-Helen likes to visit vineyards for lunch and dinner every day! And buy myself some of the local diamonds.
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, WE volunteer in the soup kitchen in Sir Lowrys Pass.
Marie-Helen Loves Sir Lowrys Pass BECAUSE it’s South Africa in a nutshell (our own rainbow nation)!
Samantha Loves Sir Lowrys Pass BECAUSE it’s beautiful and cultural.
